Now more than ever, I believe Substack is the perfect platform for any indie creator to share comics.
The digital world is changing, and for creators like us, adapting is crucial. Substack provides the best tools and opportunities that other platforms don’t, driving indie creators to look for more stable places to share their work. This makes it an ideal choice for my evolution.
Here’s why :
1. Perfect For Creating in Public
Launching on Substack means I’m not working alone anymore.
For a long time, I’ve been creating comics privately. This has led to frustration, burnout, and a lack of real-time feedback. Substack is the perfect platform to create and share in public. Not only can I share pages I’ve drawn with you, but it’s also perfect for showing a bit of my process.
Most importantly, I can see what works well and what doesn’t.
2. More Tools for Creativity
Substack has become more than an email platform.
It has become a place that offers a range of features that enhance anyone's storytelling capabilities. I am excited to use the Notes feature to share sketches and processes and hope to create a project around audio. On Substack, I know that I have a set of tools that will provide a richer experience for my readers and creative freedom for me.
Will I use all its features? Probably not. But if the need arises, I would gladly explore its capabilities in the future.
3. Evolving Comic Digital Landscape
How we read comics digitally is constantly changing.
New platforms feature the best way to read comics, which is exciting as more people can access this creative medium. If I want to grow as a professional artist, this means I can’t only share my work through the traditional format of books. I started with Gumroad, and I believe Substack is the next best place to share my work digitally.
Most importantly, they prioritize comic book creators on their platform.
