Welcome to The Stoic Creative

The Stoic Creative is for comic creators who struggle with staying consistent, overcoming creative blocks, and building a sustainable creative practice.

Every creator dreams of unlocking their full potential. But many find themselves stuck in cycles of procrastination, self-doubt, and burnout because they lack the tools to manage the mental and emotional hurdles of the creative process.

If this sounds familiar, you’ve probably tried “powering through” or relying on bursts of inspiration. Maybe you’ve even invested in courses, books, or tools—yet still feel stuck.

Here’s why:

Most comic creators focus on output without mastering their creative mindset.

As a result, they end up frustrated by inconsistency, overwhelmed by self-doubt, and creatively stalled when life throws challenges their way.

After years of writing, creating, and teaching comics, I discovered that applying Stoic philosophy to the creative process can unlock the focus, clarity, and resilience needed to create consistently—even in the face of setbacks.

If you want actionable tools to navigate the creative highs and lows while developing a more sustainable mindset, this newsletter is for you.

Who Am I?

I’m Damian, a comic creator and writer who’s spent a decade creating stories and helping other artists bring their visions to life.

I’ve taught comic writing courses for aspiring creators, published multiple short comics, and even created comics for Apple. Through these experiences, I’ve learned firsthand the challenges of staying creative under pressure, and how Stoicism can help turn those challenges into opportunities.

I started this newsletter to share what I’ve learned. What began as my personal journey to find clarity and stay consistent has grown into a practical framework to help comic creators like you achieve the same.

Now, I’m sharing actionable Stoic tools, exercises, and insights to help you stay focused, resilient, and creative.

What you get:

Once or twice a month, Gutter Thoughts lands in your inbox. A long-form post built around one Stoic idea applied to one creative challenge comic makers actually face.

  • One Stoic principle, applied directly to the comic-making process

  • Honest reflections from someone mid-project, not someone who figured it all out

  • A practical prompt or exercise to use on your own work

Between essays, shorter ideas and sketches show up in Substack Notes with either quick creative thoughts, Stoic observations, and work in progress.

If you’re working on a comic and struggling to stay the course, well this was written for you.
